Nagashi Shomen (流しそうめん/ flowing noodles)

As the summer arrives, Japan has several seasonal traditions to enjoy and one of them is Nagashi Shomen! Nagashi somen (流しそうめん/ flowing noodles) are thin noodles that are enjoyed flowing down a bamboo chute with ice-cold water. In the sweltering heat, somen (素麺) is the preferred food. This particular thin noodle is known as Nyumen when it is served hot (or warm) throughout the winter. It is served with Tsuyu, a light-flavored dipping sauce with ginger and onion, in Japan. It is believed to chill you down during the sweltering heat.

Nagashi somen is special because it takes some skills to catch the noodles – you need to be both fast and precise. It can create a unique and fun experience to enjoy your meal during the summer in Japan!
