How to Say "Hard" in Japanese

When it comes to learning how to say hard in Japanese, there are a surprising number of options.

Well, perhaps it's not unexpected! However, in order to choose the proper one, you must first consider how you want to use the term.

Here are four different way to say hard in japanese:

Muzukashii (難しい) : When something is not easy to understand or overcome
Taihen (大変) : Talks about the severity of a bad situation

Kitsui (きつい) : Similar to Taihen (大変) but with an added nuance of negative impact it has on you

Tsurai  (つらい) : When something is so hard that it is painful
