Matsuri (祭り) is the Japanese word for a festival or holiday. I learnt this word as last weekend was 'Gion Matsuri', a festival held in Kyoto. I found that the word Matsuri is applied to many other traditional Japanese festivals where deities are celebrated through street parades, dances, and shows.
